Dr. Richard Garvey

Plastic Surgery of Westchester was founded by Dr. Richard Garvey, the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville and Montefiore—New Rochelle.  He is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the clinical faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/ Montefiore Medical Center.  He has trained scores of future plastic surgeons for over ten years.

When Dr. Garvey, was a little boy, his mother took him aside and told him that his sister, Valerie, was a special person. His mother explained to him that his sister was born ill and would not be with them for very long. Because of Valerie’s short life, he would have to treat her with extra special care.

Dr. Garvey was Valerie’s constant companion. He was always by her side during her countless hospitalizations, check-ups and doctor visits. As a result, Dr. Garvey witnessed, from the patient’s perspective, the importance and healing powers of compassionate doctors and nurses. Medical school may have taught doctor Garvey how to treat diseases, but his sister taught him how to care for patients.

Dr. Garvey was born the youngest of six children in the Bronx, New York, and raised in New Rochelle, New York. He attended Columbia University where he was on the dean’s list for academic excellence. He then graduated from the Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he was the class president. He completed five years of general and trauma surgery at the Kings County/SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he was awarded the Golden Apple for teaching excellence. He completed his plastic surgical training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/ Montefiore Medical Center, where he received the prestigious Leo Davidoff Award for Teaching.  Dr. Garvey has developed one of the finest reputations for plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery in the tri-state area.

Dr. Garvey is married and has three children. Despite a busy private practice, frantic work schedule and rewarding family life, Dr. Garvey still finds time to perform with his rock band, The Scrubs. The Scrubs is a group composed of other doctors and rock musicians (and even patients!), and has performed at numerous benefits, fundraisers and local venues throughout the tri-state area.

Patient Testimonials

Dear Dr. Garvey! Selecting a surgeon entails multiple factors. We did our diligence and you came highly recommended as an expert in your field. We were pleasantly surprised to learn first hand, that you are also a true Mentch! Your skills as a surgeon coupled with your love for music, struck a chord in our heart. We thank you for your offer to perform a home visit post surgery, sharing your phone number and for always accommodating our schedule for follow-up visits.
Emily, Breast Reconstruction & Breast Augmentation Patient
Dear Dr. Garvey, Phyllis & Staff! Just a note of thanks for taking such good care of our daughter. Her scar looks wonderful and everyone took such good care of us: from Dr. Garvey’s magic touch that kept her asleep through the 8 stitches, your staff handling our insurance carrier and greeting us in such a friendly manner. You all made us feel better. See you on the battlefield and thank you for your time!
Mari, Joe, Joseph & Hailey, Reconstruction Patient
Dearest Dr. Garvey! Words can not express my gratitude. You have changed my life… You made me beautiful! My wedding day was a dream come true. Don’t my arms look fabulous! And I will be back as soon as I am done having kids for my mommy makeover! Many thanks again.
Jena, Liposuction Patient
Rick! When I first got the diagnosis, the thoughts in my head were flying fast & furious – How serious was this going to be? Where did this spread to? Well, you could guess the rest. But, in all the madness and uncertainty, there was one constant. And that was that my doctors were the best, and that my level of care would be unequaled.  Combined that with compassion and friendship, how could I lose? “Thank you” falls pitifully short for what I want to express but it’s from my heart!
Love, Liz
